Viewpoints From District 1
Corpus Christi City Council Candidate, John M. Cudd

Water Crisis
Corpus Christi is in trouble; as we struggle to figure out a source of water for our patrons and industry, it seems the city has left us behind. As your councilman, I would vow to fight for our citizens and pressure our government for state funding, desalination plants, and aid, as we aim to find a resolution to this crisis. There is no reason why this shouldn't have happened already. After years of inaction by our city government, it’s time for a change.

Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD)
It's imperative that we protect the jobs and work force of our Corpus Christ Army Depot and Naval Air Station. These two entities roughly employ 3,000 people; they also stimulate the Corpus Christi economy by providing 1.4 billion in revenue.

We must take action to ensure the Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) has a work load of 100% at all times. It’s important to understand that CCAD pays rent to the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, and Naval Air Station Corpus Christi cannot exist financially without CCAD. Without these two entities, more than 3,000 people will be unemployed. Help us to ensure we keep the Corpus Christi thriving.

Little Representation for Corpus Christi, District 1
District 1 is a vast area streaming from the coast to inland Texas. Corpus Christ used to be known as the Sparkling City by the Sea, but in the last twenty years, our city has turned into an eye-sore that is quickly losing its luster as the second largest vacation spot in the state of Texas.

Corpus Christi could be a booming destination for tourism, economic growth, and industry, but it's not. We have a crumbling infrastructure and some of the highest taxes in the state. Our only constant, is mismanagement and complacency leading to the following:

• We have constant water breaks during a drought crisis.

• The power lines look like an image from a developing country—with as many as twenty lines on each pole throughout parts of the city.

• Our streets are deteriorating.

• Businesses cannot stay viable with a constant parade of openings and closings.

• Any vacant lot instantly turns into a make-shift junkyard including: untitled cars, tires, boats, RVs, and trash.

• Homeless encampments have popped up throughout the city, and we have no resolution for them.

• The city has scaled back on city services such as: brush pickup, trash pickup, and recycle pickup.

• What started out to be a 'minimal storm water runoff fee' has over quadrupled even though we have received little or no rain in recent years.

If elected to Corpus Christi City Council District 1, I will immediately initiate common sense mandates to ensure city departments perform their obligated duties, and I will personally investigate as to why they are not already.

My name is John M. Cudd, and I am running for the Nueces County Tax Appraisal Board.

I’ve been a patron of Nueces County for over forty ears—working in the business of oil and gas. I have the upmost respect for our community and would strive to see it flourish for the benefit of our residents, families, and businesses.

I am seeking this office, because I would like to see a fresh outlook from the tax appraisal board. If elected, I plan on being judicious, and most importantly, fair to all who come before the board. Like all of the residents in Nueces County, I want our taxes to be reflected accurately, and not unjustly robust. Your vote for me will help hold the county accountable.
